About Screening
The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early childhood screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing and can identify, at an early age, possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before starting school. Screening is a mandatory requirement prior to kindergarten enrollment in any public school in Minnesota.
This broad-based screening looks at a child’s overall development and includes checking vision, hearing and growth, immunization status, and skills in thinking, communication and language, large and small muscles and social/emotional development. It is also an opportunity to find out about the early childhood and community programs available to you and answer any parenting questions you may have.
